Random Cravings
frustrated chef | Uncategorized | 05 28th, 2010 | No Comments »

Suddenly, with the heat, I missed Baguio and eating at Country Waffles in Camp John Hay. I loved their electric fireplaces there. Used to go there with friends every so often when I was still single.

Badly wanting to eat at Cyma now. Hope I can make the husband go with me tomorrow.

I still long for Cafe Breton’s crepes these past few days. Still haven’t had enough. So yummy.

Have you tasted Gourmet Pao? I’ve read about this in twitter and tried it the other day. Yummy but one order is so big that you wouldn’t want to go back for another one – ever. Or say, after a month maybe. LOL.

Darn. How can I possibly fir into my lingerie now when I eat this yummy and sinful dessert from Cafe Breton almost every other day for two weeks now? Tell me?!?! I’m screwed, bigtime. My sweet tooth is the culprit. Who can help it though? Ice cream on your favorite crepe, with this heat? Its just heaven! Every bite is heaven!

I am craving badly for this dish (like how I am badly wanting a Sony VAIO to replace my old old old laptop, oh how I wish the husband is reading this) and by hook or by crook, I will have to eat one tomorrow.

Here’s the recipe from Pinoycook.

Ingredients :

250 g. of pork liempo (belly)
10-12 pcs. of siling haba (long green variety of chili peppers)
1 tbsp. of finely minced garlic
1 onion, diced
3 tomatoes, diced
1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, julienned
11/2 c. of thick coconut cream
patis (fermented fish sauce)
2 tbsps. of cooking oil
1 tbsp. of chopped wansuy (cilantro or coriander leaves)
1 tbsp. of chopped onion leaves

Cooking procedure :

Cut the pork into small strips. Alternatively, dice the pork.

Cut off the ends of the siling haba, slit down the middle and scrape off the seeds. Soak in salted water for about 10 minutes. Drain well. If you dice the pork, cut the siling haba in small pieces.

Heat the cooking oil in a saucepan or skillet. When smoking, add the pork strips and cook over high heat until lightly browned. Add the garlic, ginger, onion, tomato and drained siling haba. Season with salt or patis. Cook, stirring, until the vegetables are soft. Pour in about half a cup of water, cover and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the pork is done and the siling haba are very soft. Turn up the meat to medium-high and pour in the coconut cream. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is quite dry.

Serve with hot rice.

On diets …
frustrated chef | Uncategorized | 05 15th, 2010 | No Comments »

Okay, I have been reading up on diets for quick weight loss but recently I haven’t been applying what I’ve been learning. Certainly, its harder than it looks especially if I always get invited to lunches and dinner. I manage to stay away from rice though but be the judge if what I eat is just right or over the top. Here are the three plates I had during our Eskolta (Manila Peninsula) buffet dinner.

First plate – Tuna and Salmon Sashimi Overload

Second plate – Roast Beef with the yummiest potato dish ever (I forgot the name but it was a little sweet) and red snapper

Third plate – second serving of the potato dish, vermicelli, chicken karage, creme brulee and triple chocolate cake

Mango Bravo
frustrated chef | cakes | 05 10th, 2010 | No Comments »

I finally was able to satisfy my Mango Bravo craving the other day when the husband and I trooped to Nuvali to meet his Balikbayan friends an early dinner. It was nice to see old friends and catch up. We ate a lot of course and on the way home, I grabbed the opportunity to buy a small size Mango Bravo cake from Conti’s. Aside from this, was able to take home lots of pasalubong from the US including some prenatal vitamins would you believe? I wonder when they’ll be of use to me. lol. Anyway, here’s my cake, all mine -

How has your life been different than you imagined?

I am living my dream. This is all I ever wanted – to have a lovely family to raise and nurture.

What lessons have you learned from your relationships?

It always takes two to tango.

If you had to move to a city besides the one you currently live in, where would you move?

Hmmm, I’d probably say New Jersey because some close relatives of mine are from there. I would never have to deal with being homesick then as I’ll be surrounded with people I know and love. They can always take me shopping too which now reminds me… I have to check out the sale of men’s polo shirts online. The husband needs a few.

Bad Day.
frustrated chef | Uncategorized | 04 26th, 2010 | No Comments »

Two nights of no sleep because of a sick baby and here I am, with these ugly dark circles under my eyes. Ugh. Any recommended and trusted product you might want to share?

Anyway, I am so far having a bad day and the extreme heat outside is making it worst. Is it hot from where you are too? To cool down, I am ordering (for the 4th day in a row) Chowking Halo Halo again.

I hope this will make me feel a bit better.

Rapid detox
frustrated chef | Uncategorized | 04 20th, 2010 | No Comments »

Have you heard of rapid detox? I haven’t until I read an article over the net about it and I got so interested that I read some more. You see, back in college, I together with some classmates wrote a paper about drug addiction. We went to different drug rehabilitation facilities back then for our research and was able to talk to drug dependents as well who were going through rehab. That time, there still was no such thing as rapid detox that helps patients get rid of physical addiction faster than the usual. Although rapid detox does not cover psychological aspect of addiction, I think its a great help to conquer any form of addiction as the main problem for drug dependents according to our study when I was n college was relapse. And relapse most likely happens during the first few days days of trying to quit or what they call withdrawal that causes extreme discomfort on the striving drug addict that sometimes prompts him to give up even before he can quit his addiction. The cycle goes on and on.

Reading up on rapid detox makes me wonder how many lives it could and should save.  There’s hope after all.

really?

Is there such thing as diet pill for men? I’ve never heard of any but a friend is insisting that such thing exists and is very effective. If it is indeed effective, then I’d like to get some for my husband who has been gaining a lot of weight lately. He can’t seem to control his food intake so he’s getting bigger by the day. Its no good to his health and isn’t such a lovely sight to see to, haha. I hope he’s not reading this LOL. So I am looking for  ways for him to lose weight. I hope these diet pills for men really works.
